Vancouver Island

I was on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, from 9th September 2001 to Sunday 23rd December, in order to visit Andrew Weaver and his climate modelling group at the University of Victoria. While there I stayed with Karen Drysdale and John Campbell in their house in Jamaica Rd below Mt Douglas.

Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, Sunday 30th September
Juan de Fuca trail is on the W coast of Vancouver Island. The views out to sea are across the Juan de Fuca Strait towards the coast of Washington State and the Olympic Mountains. I joined the trail on Bear Beach via a side-trail, just west of the small cliff that blocks the way at high tide, and walked west along the beach and through the wood for 6 km, then back.

Strathcona Park, Saturday 6th October and Sunday 7th
A weekend trip with the Canadian Alpine Club. We started at Mt Washington ski area, walked across the Forbidden Plateau, and camped on the ridge leading up Mt Albert Edward (2094 m). We reached the summit the next morning in cold conditions.
